Food Tripping: Raub

On my recent trip back to Bentong, my parents decided to take Lydia on a 30 minutes ride to Raub to have a taste of Ratha’s Curry Chicken. It was something I loved but had not eaten in quite a while. I know no other eatery that serves similar tasting curry.

Ratha’s reminds me of my childhood. On occasions which my family would go back to my Dad’s hometown in Benta (another 30 minutes of so from Raub) to visit my paternal grandparents, I remember having Ratha’s Curry Chicken for one meal, and the next meal would be bread dipped in Ratha’s left-over curry. My paternal grandparents passed on several years ago, but the memory stays.

After Ratha’s, we ventured to a small village called Kampung Koman to buy some “kuih”. My parents had been ranting about it since the beginning of the journey. Well, I guess I wasn’t disappointed. My parents spent over RM50 on “kuih”. Mind you, that’s a lot, considering “kuih” costs on between RM1 to RM3.

In summary, the trip to Raub was a good one. If you’re headed to Frasers Hill, it’s worth the trip making a detour to Raub for Ratha’s Curry Chicken and the variety of “kuih” at Chop Yoon Thye, Kampung Koman (available from 2pm to about 3pm only I’m told).
